June, 29th, 2009 | As many of our ASAV members can attest to the Shagya breed blends well with many of the other breeds. The
Shagya is indeed seen as the “Great Improver” by many. At the ASAV convention this year Dr. Maren
Engelhardt gave us a wonderful overview of how influential the Shagya blood has been for years in the TK breeding program. And she listed a great many of the top performance TK’s who have benefited and excelled in their sports from our blood lines. More and more our breed is being appreciated by breeders on the warm blood side.
It makes sense then that Shagya breeders partner up or support breed organizations such as the American Warmblood Society who understand the value of high quality cross bred horses. In that light ASAV wants to make our members aware of an AWS Warmblood Inspection being held Sept 12 at Karen Bish’s, Hawkview Ranch in Bend, Oregon. As stated on their web site “The AWS is an international non-profit performance/Breed registry whose only goal and purpose is to represent, promote, award and aid in the development of talented sport horses of all bloodlines from the grass roots through the Olympic levels”. Details about the inspection criteria appear on the AWS web site. The AWS focuses on an educational format at their inspections so this will also be a learning experience. The horses are not judged to a breed specific criteria but rather to desirable conformation and desirable movement criteria. Several Shagya’s will be presented. If you’d like more information see the AWS web site or contact Karen Bish at (541) 388-1410 for details or inspection entries. |
June, 25th, 2009 | The
ASAV 2009 Challenge Cup Endurance Race
(50 miles) will be held on September 19th in Brothers, Oregon.
We will piggyback onto the Oregon-100/PAC North Fundraiser
(AERC)---12/25/50/75 Elevator. ASAV will provide food at the morning of
the awards. The ride manager is Carol Giles/Charleen Farrell of Prineville, Oregon. Charleen can be reached at 541-419-5722. All AERC ride fees apply. Note that to compete for the cup, Shagya owner(s) must be a member (s) of ASAV and the horse must be registered with ASAV. Details concerning the ride (flyer) will be published in the next newsletter and placed on our web site |
June, 19th, 2009 | Karen Bish has offered Hawkview ranch (Bend, Oregon) as an
Inspection Site for
the American Warmblood Society. The inspection is scheduled for Sept. 12th. If
you wish to have your Shagya inspected for inclusion into AWS (breeding), please
call Karen. http://www.americanwarmblood.org/calendars/inspections.htm |

April, 26th, 2009 | Update from the Youth-Program Director - Kesleigh
Lehman: I need your help in creating a buzz about Shagyas. I need all the information I can get. I need to be able to show the youth and cyber world that Shagyas are active. Here is what I need: Photos of you and your Shagya(s), or just your Shagyas. Please include name, sire and dam, and if you were at an event, what the event was and what you placed. Personal stories- let the world know why your Shagya shines! I want to include a "spotlight" feature every two weeks on myspace to help draw in readers. Tell a personal story of when your Shagya came through for you, in and out of the show ring; or how special it was when that little foal was born, or how your Shagya has touched someone's else's life besides yours. Let me know when you have competed and how you did. A couple of paragraphs will do. Include Photos! Ads of Shagyas for sale if you have any. Or stallion services. I have over 700 active members on myspace, and that number grows every day! - its a great and free way to advertise. Let your friends' kids know about the Shagya in anyway you can. I will be sending a flyer about the ASAV Youth Program soon so that you can go around and post the flyer around your local area. |
April, 24th, 2009 | ASAV-Annual Meeting: BIO & Speaker Profile Dr. Maren

February, 22th, 2009 | Message from the ASAV-President Kilian Dill: A report of the ASAV presentation at PNER is now on our web site. ASAV had a spectacular booth at the AERC meeting held in Louisville. The BOD was kind enough to donate several items to the AERC raffle, one of which was a FREE breeding. After much wrangling and trading, the winner of the breeding was an internationally renowned traveler and endurance rider Steph Teeter. ASAV president Kilian Dill presented the ASAV-Shagya high mileage award at the AERC banquet. The winner for 2008 is Monique Vincent. Our award is part of their published breeds program. Look for our articles in the AERC magazine and the Northwest Horse Source. Look for our full page advertisement in the PNER newsletter and our ad in the AERC magazine. |
